Wipro’s Gurgoan Development Center achieves the prestigious Platinum Rating from US Green Building Council.
Secures maximum scores in India and second highest in the world.
Bangalore : Wipro's new Software Development Center in Gurgoan – India, has joined the elite club of 10 Platinum rated buildings world wide. It has achieved the prestigious Platinum Rating in the ‘Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED)’ category from the US Green Building Council (USGBC).
Wipro's Facility secured 57 points - the maximum points secured in India and the second highest in the world – from USGBC. Of the 278 buildings certified worldwide by the USGBC, only 10 have the coveted Platinum rating.
The USGBC is the foremost coalition of leaders from the construction industry working to promote buildings that are environmentally responsible and are healthy to live and work from.
The Lighting for the building has been supplied by Wipro Lighting. This includes a sophisticated Lux level cum movement detection sensor operated dim-able lighting systems and is an important energy saving feature of this building. Wipro’s furniture business has also contributed to the aesthetics of the interiors by supplying the modular furniture (Vibrant-3 tile system).

This guided us right through the process from the original concepts to the final percepts," said S S Ramesh – General Manager (Civil Infrastructure) Wipro. "The LEED system provided us with a structured and focused format to achieve our objectives of delivering innovative, value for money solutions by excelling in the areas of energy efficiency, water conservation and environment protection," he added.
The Wipro – Gurgoan center also aims at encouraging cycling and vehicle pooling by the employees to minimize pollution. Provision of preferential parking, shower and changing facilities for the cyclists, reserved parking for those car pooling, provision of battery charging facility for electric cars are some of the measures adopted. Water usage efficiency is maintained by providing for rain water harvesting and more importantly, by efficient landscaping with native plants.
Wipro operates from 35 delivery centers in India and abroad, with around 5 million square feet of state-of-the-art development facilities housing its 45,000 employees. The Wipro-Gurgoan center has a built up area of 1, 60,000 sq ft built on a 1.12 acre plot. Vidur Bharadwaj (Design & Development Consultants) is the architectfor the project, Spectral are the services consultants while the structural designs were done by M/s. Juneja Structural Consultants. L & T, Blue Star and Johnson Controls were others involved. CII was the LEED consultant supported by EDS (Energy Consultants) and Godrej & Boyce (commissioning agents).
