How industrial LED lighting can minimize the risk of workplace accidents?

Industrial facilities, construction sites, manufacturing plants, etc. are some of the commercial spaces that experience heavy footfall throughout the day. They incorporate big and heavy machinery that operate 24X7 on majority of the days in order to maintain the desired productivity levels. However, these are asserted as some of the high risk areas that can be prone to serious accidents. Thus, concerned authorities should always undertake all the safety and security measures in order to ensure the health and wellness of the employees.

Proper lighting is one such safety measure that all commercial spaces should adhere to sincerely. Various studies assert that lighting conditions in a space can influence human behaviour and eventually affect people’s health and productivity. For instance, dull lighting can make people lethargic and reduce their concentration levels. Fortunately, all commercial spaces are now increasingly embracing industrial LED lighting solutions. These lighting solutions not only allow authorities to reap notable cost benefits but also make the working environment better and safer for employees.

Here are some ways LED-based industrial lighting solutions can minimize the risk of workplace accidents:

1. Increased alertness

Fatigue and drowsiness are two major factors that can increase the risk of accidents in such sensitive commercial spaces. Fortunately, LED lights for industrial use furnish a cool white light that is comfortable on the eyes. They reduce the feeling of drowsiness or lethargy and increase the alertness levels of the employees. For instance, a study by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) asserts that LED lighting helps people in detecting trip hazards almost 94% faster.

2. Improved colour rendering

Conventional lighting fixtures were leveraged with major CRI concerns. CRI or colour rendering index is defined as the ability of a luminaire to reveal colours in a space faithfully in comparison to the natural light source. LEDs typically boast a CRI of 70 or above that provides optimal illumination to improve the colour perception of the employees.

3. No harmful elements

According to experts, traditional lighting devices like CFLs contain small amount of mercury, which can be released into the environment if the lights break or are not disposed-off properly. On the other hand, LED luminaires contain no harmful elements and are completely safe for both humans as well as the environment. Moreover, they are also free from any heat emission concerns like faced in halogens and incandescent bulbs.

LED-based modern industrial lighting has certainly surpassed all the traditional lighting devices in ensuring a safe working environment for the employees. We at Wipro Lighting work with industry experts to build state-of-the-art lighting solutions while keeping the safety and wellness of the people at the centre of our developments.
